Oh my Homeland – Life Under the Taliban 12

Oh my Homeland

This piece was written by Rahil (pseudonym) who lives in Afghanistan in Persian and has been translated to English by us.  You can find the Persian version here.

The sky pours misfortune on you from above. The earth is dug from below, its people destroying each other for no reason, but with pride, even when killing an innocent child who has not yet seen the world.

There is the bitter and sorrowful story of a woman and her six-month-old child who were mercilessly murdered and thrown into a river. There is also the story of the shepherd’s wife, who in search for a bite to eat for her husband, departs her village to find food, but is stopped on her way up the mountain by a bloodthirsty Taliban who suspects her of collaborating with the resistance and slaughters her.

In the past few months, this has been the bitter reality for Panjshir and Baghlan and their people. Terrible atrocities have been committed in the provinces’ villages, but the media has not shown these. In reality, people are scared of speaking up about the terrible events happening in these provinces because speaking the truth has become an unforgivable crime.
