Language and Literature of Takijs in Afghanistan
Language
Our native language is Persian, called Parsi (original) and Farsi (Arabized) in our language. We share this language with other Persians in the Middle East, Central – and South Asia. The Persian spoken in Afghanistan is also referred to as Parsi-Dari or Farsi-Dari. Some Tajiks do not like referring to our language as Parsi-Dari or Farsi-Dari, and would rather just call it Parsi or Farsi, because they feel that previous governments of Afghanistan have chosen to label the language as ‘Dari’ as a political tool to distance the Persians of Afghanistan from Persians in other Persian countries such as Iran and Tajikistan (1).
Literature
Persian is one of the oldest languages of the world and Persian literature has a rich legacy.
